Daily
Film News |
|
| Chud | In my opinion, the best of the "insider" film websites. Good sense of humor, decent writing styles, excellent information, and great navigability. Plus, Chud, ya know?. |
| Aint It Cool? News | Lots of "insider" information
about Hollywood's latest. Harry is about the worst film writer on the
planet, but you have to give him credit for combining a sense of community
with a recognizable personality, which is what made him so successful
in the first place. I gotta say though, that recent rave reviews for such
films as The Real Cancun and Van Helsing make me wonder about the objectivity
of the site. Updated less and less. . |
| Dark Horizons | More daily film information than Harry usually posts,
sans the community/personality. From an Aussie, so no American bias. The
site is a little annoying to navigate through, and once thing I dug about
the old style was the quick single page fix. . . |
| Variety | "Hix Nix Stix Pix" - can you go wrong with journalism like that? Variety also happened to print my picture in it, so I'm biased. That being said, I'm not about to shell out the subscription costs for their website. In other words, outside of internships where I get it for free, I rarely read Variety. |
| Hollywood Reporter | More legit film news? How boring! Hollywood Reporter has all the daily industry headlines, without any of the login subscription issues of Variety. |
Screenplay
Resources |
|
| Movie Bytes | Every screenplay contest in existence. |
| Done Deal | What screenplays were bought this month...and last month, and the month before, and last year, and so on ... I honestly cannot check this site out too regularly, as the number of times I've seen "my idea" sold for some mid-six figure deal is really disheartening. Really, really useful resource though, if only to see the lack of good ideas out there. |
| Fan
Sites |
|
| M. Night Shyamalan | This fan site is devoted to Shyamalan, who I consider to be an emerging auteur if there ever was one. I'm not always a huge fan of his output, which I think is due to the fact that he has achieved full creative control over his films at too early a point in his career. But I love what he attempts to do. Watch out Night - I'm coming. |
