I
had seen a fan-made Star Wars films, and decided to make my own. I'm not
exactly sure how I first learned of it, but www.theforce.net has a section
on how to make a lightsabre effect using rotoscoping techniques (a fancy
word for going over each frame and drawing in a lightsabre, one by one).
I got a couple of friends from NYU out to Riverside Park one cold and
wintery day, and had them fight with bamboo practice swords. There never
was a plot to the script. It was simply to see if I could achieve the
effect of a lightsabre. There's a few camera movements we came up with
on the spot that I'm proud of, and a force pull that I'm not proud of,
but on the whole, I think the effects look quite Star Wars-ey. The question
is - is it all copyrighted? Am I that close to getting sued by Lucas?
Well, if he comes, I'll be waiting with my bamboo sword.
